Halloween is coming, and in all the fun craft groups, I’ve seen people prepping decorations. When I think of Halloween, I see pumpkins, witches, and black cats! Thus I had to come up with this fun layered mandala style cat design.

The cat is 5 layers and looks great with foam spacer tabs for a 3D effect as shown in the first photo with the gold glitter eyes, or with all the layers glued like the green foil eyed cat below.

I don’t mind if you use these designs for personal or small business commercial use up to 200 items, but please do not re-sell or re-distribute the files. I’d ask that you direct your crafty friends here to download the files themselves.  Also, I don’t allow my designs to be used in print-on-demand shops or on transfers that will be sold. MATERIALS TO MAKE LAYERED HALLOWEEN CAT MANDALA

  • 65 lb Cardstock – I used Recollections Brand Cardstock from Michaels.
  • Micro Foam Tabs – These micro-foam tabs are perfect for the thin lines on the top layer of the cat.
  • Foam tabs – These foam tabs from Tombow are my absolute favorite. They’re thick enough to provide a good dimension to each project. The description is a bit deceiving as it states 50 tabs. In fact, there are 464 in the package, 50 large and 414 small sizes.
  • Light grip mat (blue light grip)
  • Cricut Maker – or your favorite cutting machine.
  • Design #92 – My free SVG/DXF/EPS/PNG cut file (available in my freebie vault—get the password at the bottom of this post).

Once you’ve unzipped the download folder, upload the SVG formatted file to Cricut Design Space. You’ll see I saved the design in a few shades of grey and black so that they’re easier to see on screen. If you need help or instructions on the upload process, this post will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Leave the design grouped to resize as not all layers are the same dimension. This will ensure all layers stay in the correct proportion.

As shown in the material list above, I prefer to work with Recollections brand cardstock from Michaels. It cuts smooth and works well with a light blue cutting mat.

To ensure clean cuts and to keep the cardstock from ripping, use a brayer to adhere the paper to the mat.

Once you have all the layers cut, it’s time to start putting the kitty together.

We’ll start a bit in the middle and with the 3rd and 4th layers (as described in the Order of Layers photo above) and used glue to attach the glitter layer to the 3rd layer. Then we’ll move on to using foam tabs to attach the second layer, then the first layer. Once the top four layers were assembled, I attached them to the bottom layer.

Using a sharpie, I colored the sides of the micro foam tabs used on the top layer so that they wouldn’t be as visible.

  1. I love the cat design, Thank you! Especially for mentioning the micro dots! I didn’t even know they existed. Already placed an order.

  2. I was checking Amazon and discovered they sell foan dots in black. Not sure if they sell the micro size in black, but it’s worth checking out!

    1. Thanks for letting me know. I’d love to grab some black tabs so that I don’t stain my fingertips with Sharpie next time. I’ll check that out.

  3. I have a question – I’m always looking for really good foam tabs. When I click the link for the tabs, those tabs are square (which is fine), but the ones you’re using on the top layer of the cat are round which I would LOVE to get. Do you have a link for those?

    1. Hi Tammy,
The little round tabs on the top layer are Micro-Foam tabs I found on Amazon. I fixed the link to locate them in my post. I had them listed originally, but it was to be a link to the item. Sorry about that.
