FREE LAYERED CHRISTMAS STOCKING CUT FILE
As I write this post, it’s July. I’ve been wanting to create Christmas designs for a bit now and finally decided that a Christmas in July theme would be perfect. Are you working on Christmas decorations and dreaming of Christmas?
The Snowflake and Blank Stockings were assembled by gluing the first two layers together and using foam tabs between the second and third layers. I used the same format on the stocking and the top portion. Foam tabs were used to attach the top to the bottom part of the stocking.
Included with the download for these Christmas stockings are four designs. A Snowflake, Candy Canes, Deer, and a Blank Christmas Stocking. The blank one leaves plenty of room to add a name or other decoration for personalization. The download folder will include both SVG and DXF formats. The stocking portion is three layers and the fluffy part at the top is an additional three layers.
The Candy Cane and Deer Stockings were assembled with glue. No foam tabs were used.
MATERIALS TO MAKE LAYERED CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS
- 65 lb Cardstock – I used Recollections Brand Cardstock.
- Foam tabs – These foam tabs from Tombow are my absolute favorite. They’re thick enough to provide a good dimension to each project. The description is a bit deceiving as it states 50 tabs. In fact, there are 464 in the package, 50 large and 414 small sizes.
- Light grip mat (blue light grip)
- Cricut Maker – or your favorite cutting machine.
- Design #78 – Layered Christmas Stocking – Free SVG cut file (available in my freebie vault—get the password at the bottom of this post).

Not sure what I am doing, but I am not getting the fluffy white portion of stocking? Thanks for all the free designs!
Hi Lori,
Have you uploaded the SVG format in your cutting software? Most SVG viewers may not pick up the white on white layers.
Hi Cjoa – I was so excited to try these stockings – they are so cute. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or if it’s an issue with the file, but I am not seeing my svg as layers. I am using Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. I have also downloaded the alphabet letters, and they do show up as layers. Any thoughts? Thanks for all your wonderful files.
Hi Wendy,
My first thought would be that possibly you’ve not uploaded the SVG format? Would you mind double-checking? Once the SVG is uploaded, you will be able to see the layers in the layers panel.
DUH – I guess I wasn’t thinking straight. I realize now that the design has to be ungrouped in order to see the layers. SO SORRY, but maybe my mistake helped someone else?
Yes, you’re correct. And I saw your first comment before this one. But, you’re right, it may help others. 😍
I’m wondering if anyone has had any luck making these stockings a little smaller. I resized it down to about 6 inches tall, thinking they would make nice tree ornaments. I’m having a hard time to get the “knit” part to cut properly…my machine (Cameo 2) is chewing it up. I’ve tried slowing it down, still no luck. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hi Wendy. I’m not familiar with the Cameo 2, but I was able to cut them on my tiny Cricut Joy at 6 inches in height.
beautiful !!! thank you so much
I would love t be able to receive this SVG, wondering what I need to do to get it.
Thank you for your time,
Michelle

I see that the layered stocking is in Black ?Is it not on the site yet to down load. If it is I am unable to download it . 🙁 Help TY.Plus I could’n sign up for the thanksgiving Birthday cricut
Good morning. If the design uploaded all black, I’m guessing you’ve uploaded the DXF formatted version of the file. Try deleting that and uploading the SVG format.
Hi! Im totally new to this whole thing and i saw someone talking about having to ungroup the layers… How do i do this, and what software do i need?
The answer will somewhat depend on which cutting machine brand you’re using. In general, for both Cricut and Silhouette, you’ll find ungroup functions in the layers panels.
I love all your designs! I just wished there were video’s to go with each of them as I learn by watching. I am going to attempt to do the Christmas stocking. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you for the feedback. I will try to do more videos. I work full-time and create the designs in my “free” time. The video portion adds a lot of time to the process, so I sometimes don’t have them. I know I need to do more, though. I truly appreciate the feedback as I love to help others be creative.
I have 3 cats, and with that comes great stress for a Christmas tree. I love these paper stockings for decorating a cat friendly tree.
Thank you
