How To Make A Valentine’s Heart Shadowbox

The two hearts pictured above were framed in a cardstock shadow box frame I designed. You can find my post about the Shadow Box Frame HERE.

  • 65lb. Cardstock – I prefer the Recollections brand. The number of sheets will depend on the size you’re cutting the project.
  • Foam Tabs
  • Shadow Box Frame – The black frame in the photos is this frame in 9×9″ size.
  • Light Grip Mat (blue)
  • Cricut Maker – or cutting machine of your choice
  • Design #118 – Layered Heart Shadow Box SVG – My free SVG cut file (available in my freebie vault—get the password at the bottom of this post).

The download includes two SVG files. One is the “plain” heart and the other is the version with Love.

For the version with the word love, I’ve included two additional heart shapes that can be used as fits your needs. In the example photo with the red, white and black heart, I didn’t need one layer as it was the same color so I hid it.

You will want to use the extra layers if/when you want the love writing or offset layer to be a different color than the heart outline layer. Play around with the colors in your cutting software to determine what works best for your project.

I have a Box Frame available free on my website, if using that design to frame your project, upload the 7.5″ Shadow Box design and then size your heart to 7.6″ for a perfect fit.

Once you’ve sized and cut your layers, use foam tabs between each layer to provide depth and dimension.

I find it best to start with the bottom layer and place the tabs on the back of the next piece. Repeat the process of adding tabs and placing each layer on the next as you work your way up.
