As the year comes to an end, many reflect on all that took place and then look forward to the next.

A few years back, I heard people picking their “Word Of The Year”. Looking forward to 2022, I’ve decided my word will be DETERMINED.

I’m determined to move past the anxiety that plagued me this year. Determined to eat better, take time for me, and am determined to work more on my designs and website. Determined to finish projects already started.

Do you have a word of the year? A focus for the next 365 days? If you do, use the design and tutorial below to create your own layered word with 2022.

  • Cardstock – I used a mix of glitter, holographic and regular cardstock.
  • Foam Tabs
  • Art Glitter Glue – This glue is perfect for paper projects.
  • Light grip mat (blue light grip) – I used a well-used green mat on this project. Normally with cardstock, I use a blue mat.
  • Brayer
  • Cricut Maker – or your favorite cutting machine.
  • Design #154 – Layered 2022 Happy New Year or 2022 Determined – My free cut file (available in my freebie vault—get the password at the bottom of this post).

Step-By-Step Directions To Make A Word Of The Year With Cricut Offset

Two designs are included with the free download (#154) in my Freebie Vault. The 2022 Happy New Year and 2022 determined. If you’d like to replace determined with your own word, follow the steps below.

Type the word you’d like to use. In the example above, I used the Sugarberry font from KA Designs. Once the word is typed, click the offset button and set the size of your offset. I typed .12 inches as my offset measurement.

After the offset is created, you may want to use the contour feature to exclude the small bits that may not cut well.

To contour “creativity”, I clicked the 3 smallest bits to hide those pieces.

After contouring, I reduced the size a bit, changed the color, and placed it on the 2022 to see how it would look. Don’t forget to weld the original text – in this case, “creativity”, if you’ve used a script font. This will ensure the letters do not cut individually.

How To Cut And Assemble

Cut the design using the appropriate setting for your material. I used glitter cardstock and medium cardstock settings on my Maker. Cut settings may vary based on the material.

Use a brayer to attach the cardstock to your mat firmly. Once cut, turn the mat upside down and slowly bend back while keeping the paper as flat as possible on your work surface. This will help prevent the paper from curling.

To assemble the pieces, I started with the “happy new year” wording. I used glue to attach the holographic cardstock to the offset background. Set this piece aside to dry.

Next use foam tabs to attach the top layer of numbers to the middle.

Use foam tabs on the back of the middle layer too.

The last step is to use foam tabs to attach the “happy new year” to the 2022 numbers. In the photo above, the stand is from another of my designs. To find that post, click HERE.
